John Klein and
Alberto Suarez were selected to the 2022 United Soccer Coaches All-Southeast Region teams.
Â
Klein and Suarez earned a spot on the first team and are now eligible for All-America honors. Buendia was named to the third team All-Region.
Â
The trio helped the Billikens (12-5-3) capture the Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Soccer Championship for a second straight season. SLU defeated Memphis in the opening round of the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship.
Â
Buendia, a first-team All-Conference selection, was a key contributor to the Billikens' defensive effort that yielded just seven goals in regular-season A-10 play. Also, Buendia scored the game-winning goal against La Salle and had the game-winning assist at Fordham.
Â
Klein, a first-team All-Conference selection and the A-10 co-Offensive Player of the Year, led the Billikens in scoring with 19 points (7G, 5A). He finished his illustrious SLU career 16th in school history with 85 career points (29G, 27A). His 27 assists are tied for ninth all-time at SLU.
Â
Suarez, the A-10 Defensive Player of the Year in addition to earning first-team All-Conference accolades, contributed on both sides of the ball for the Billikens. He led the Billikens in minutes played from his center back position and helped SLU to five shutouts on the year. His six goals ranked second on the squad.
