Billikens Top Bonnies in Thriller to Advance to A-10 Semis

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Gibson Jimerson scored a team-high 20 points, including the game winning jumper with 17 seconds left, and Saint Louis held on for a thrilling 57-56 victory over St. Bonaventure Friday in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Basketball Championship at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.

The Billikens (23-10) advance to take on top-seed Davidson Saturday in the semifinals at noon (CT). That game will air on CBS Sports Network and KMOX.

Jimerson's 20 points included a 6-of-9 shooting performance from 3-point range. Four of his triples came in the second half.

Francis Okoro registered his second-straight double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Also finishing in double figures was Yuri Collins, who scored 11 points, dished out nine assists and snagged seven rebounds.

St. Bonaventure led by one with less than a minute to go before Collins found Jimerson for a jumper from the right side with 17 seconds left, putting the Billikens on top 57-56.

The Bonnies pushed the ball up to the front court and called timeout with 13 seconds remaining. With a second left, St. Bonaventure's Kyle Lofton was fouled, giving him a chance to put the Bonnies in front with a pair of free throws. However, Lofton missed them both as well as the ensuing putback as time expired, allowing the Billikens to come away with the thrilling one-point win.

Saint Louis went up by 10 points midway through the second half before the Bonnies clawed back into it. In addition to his game-winning jumper, Jimerson also came up with a big 3-pointer with 1:43 remaining that erased a two-point St. Bonaventure advantage.

SLU's win Friday was redemption for the Billikens, as the Bonnies defeated them twice in the regular season. Saint Louis will be looking for more redemption on Saturday, as Davidson won convincingly, 79-58, at Belk Arena in the lone meeting between the two teams in the regular season.
