ST. LOUIS – With the 2021-22 season in the books after last night's National Championship game, Saint Louis third-year guard
Yuri Collins has officially claimed the No. 1 ranking in the NCAA this year in total assists (267) and assists per game (7.9).
Â
A first-team All-Atlantic 10 selection, Collins' 267 assists this year were the most by an NCAA player since the 2018-19 season, when Ja Morant (Murray State) and Cassius Winston (Michigan State) recorded 331 and 291 assists, respectively.
Â
Collins, who also finished second on the Billikens with 11.1 ppg, owns every school assist record at Saint Louis. His 554 career assists are already a school record, and the 267 helpers this year broke SLU's single-season record. Collins dished out a school-record 19 assists in a game versus Boston College earlier this year.
Â
Collins joins two Billiken legends who have led the NCAA in a major statistical category in a season. Ed Macauley led the nation in field-goal percentage (.524) during the 1948-49 campaign. Anthony Bonner was the NCAA leader in rebounds per game (13.8) in 1989-90.
