DETAILS
• Saint Louis broke the program's hits record in game one of the doubleheader against Richmond but fell in the second contest in conference play Saturday afternoon at Billiken Sports Center in St. Louis, Mo.
• SLU's 25 hits in the first game broke the previous record of 24 which was accomplished twice during the 2017 season.
• The Billikens moved to 16-13 on the season, 3-2 in Atlantic 10 Conference play, while the Spiders went to 14-13, 1-4.
GAME ONE SCORING
• Cole Smith smacked one-of-four singles in the second inning for the Billikens and drove in the first run of the game. Kyle Fitzgerald later followed with a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch to put SLU up 2-0.
• Matt Happ and Matt Turino recorded RBI singles and Cam Redding punched a two-RBI double into the gap for a four-run third inning for the Billikens.
• Smith and Turino collected RBI singles in the bottom of the fourth.
• Happ and Turino each posted their fourth hits of the game in a six-run sixth inning for the Billikens. Tyler Fogarty added an RBI double in the frame.
• The Spiders scored three runs in the seventh.
• SLU added two more runs in the eighth, including a Colten Schild RBI single.
GAME ONE NOTABLES
• Turino and Happ each posted career highs in hits with five each. Turino drove in four and scored twice, while Happ scored four times and had two RBIs.
• Redding, Mark Vierling and Smith each collected three hits in the contest. Vierling scored three times, while Redding and Smith had two RBIs apiece.
• Logan Schmitt moved to 5-1 on the year, tossing 6.0 innings, allowing no runs on six hits and striking out two.
GAME TWO SCORING
• Happ drove in the game's first run with an RBI single in the second.
• The Spiders scored on an RBI single in the fourth inning.
• SLU regained the advantage on a Vierling RBI single in the bottom of the fourth.
• Richmond scored three in in its half of the fifth.
• An RBI double off the wall by Fitzgerald cut the Richmond advantage to 4-3.
• UR added a run in the seven on an infield single.
• Fogarty's team-leading eighth home run of the season made it a one-run game in the seventh.
• The Spiders added three insurance runs in the ninth.
• Fogarty homered for a second time in the bottom of the ninth.
GAME TWO NOTABLES
• Fogarty finished 2-3 with two home runs, four runs scored and two RBIs.
• Turino went 2-5.
