ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis will join Maryland, Miami and Providence to make up a talented field in the 2022 Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament, which takes place Nov. 19-20 at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Conn.
Â
The Billikens will face Maryland on Saturday, Nov. 19, then either Miami or Providence the next day. Ticket information, tip times and broadcast information will be released at a later date.
Â
Saint Louis returns 71 percent of its scoring and 62 percent of its rebounding from last year's NIT team that finished 23-12 overall and 12-6 in the A-10.
Gibson Jimerson, who led the team in scoring last season, and
Yuri Collins, the 2021-22 assists leader, are among five players back for the Billikens. Also returning to the fold is 2020-21 leading scorer
Javonte Perkins, who missed all of last season with an injury.
Â
Maryland is under the direction of new head coach Kevin Willard, who was hired by the Terrapins after a 12-year stint at Seton Hall. Maryland was 15-17 overall and 7-13 in the Big Ten last season.
Â
Miami finished 26-11 last year and advanced to the Elite Eight as a No. 10 seed in the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship. Providence (27-6 a season ago) was a No. 4 seed in the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship and went to the Sweet 16.
Â
This will mark the second time Maryland and Saint Louis have met on the hardwood. The previous game was a 74-66 Maryland victory in the first round of the 1994 NCAA Men's Basketball Championship in Wichita, Kansas. The Billikens are 1-6 all-time against Providence (last meeting on Nov. 17, 2017) and 2-0 against Miami (last meeting on Dec. 23, 1988).
