"We are excited to announce our 2022 schedule," Shields said. "The non-conference schedule is challenging and features five 2021 NCAA Tournament teams, three of which finished in the top 20 of the RPI. Each of these opponents features a different style of play and personnel that will prepare us to win the Atlantic 10 championship and position us to advance in the NCAA Tournament in November.
Â
"The schedule also fulfills one of our main objectives for the 2022 season, which was to reward our fans with high-profile games at Hermann Stadium that will help continue building excitement around our program within the St. Louis community," Shields said.
Â
Saint Louis fans get their first look at the 2022 team Aug. 10 when the Billikens host Lindenwood in an exhibition game. SLU travels to Evansville for a second exhibition Aug. 13.
Â
The Billikens welcome Arkansas (Aug. 18) and Notre Dame (Aug. 25) to Midtown for their first two home contests. The Razorbacks of the Southeastern Conference finished No. 3 in the RPI and advanced to the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals last year, while the Fighting Irish of the Atlantic Coast Conference landed at No. 20 in the final RPI after falling to Arkansas in the NCAA Tournament round of 16. Nebraska of the Big Ten Conference visits Hermann Stadium Sept. 4.
Â
A Sept. 11 home game vs. local rival and 2021 NCAA Tournament qualifier SIUE concludes the non-conference portion of the schedule. The Billikens hit the road for non-conference matchups with Drake (Aug. 21), Kansas City (Aug. 28), Missouri State (Sept. 1) and Xavier (Sept. 8). Xavier reached the NCAA Tournament and was No. 16 in the final RPI a year ago.
Â
Saint Louis' quest for the Atlantic 10 regular-season crown begins with road games against La Salle (Sept. 15) and Richmond (Sept. 18). New A-10 member and 2021 NCAA Tournament participant Loyola Chicago is the Bills' first conference home opponent of the season Sept. 22, and SLU closes the month Sept. 25 at Duquesne.
Â
Hermann Stadium is the site of four of the Billikens' six October matches. George Mason comes calling Oct. 2, followed by Rhode Island Oct. 13, defending regular-season champion VCU Oct. 20 and Saint Joseph's Oct. 23. Sprinkled in are road games vs. Massachusetts (Oct. 9) and Dayton (Oct. 16).
Â
The eight-team A-10 Championship begins Friday, Oct. 28. The semifinals and final are scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 2, and Sunday, Nov. 6, respectively. All tournament games will be played on the campuses of the higher-seeded teams in each round.
