GAME NOTES: Saint Louis | Dayton
Saint Louis (5-14, 1-3 A-10)Â battles Dayton (3-12, 2-2 A-10) Sunday, Jan. 15, at Chaifetz Arena in the 48th meeting between the longtime rivals.
Tipoff at Chaifetz Arena is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. CT on CBS Sports Network with Paul Burmeister and Leah Secondo on the call. KMOX (1120 AM, 98.7 FM) also will carry the game, with Tom Ackerman handling the play-by-play. The KMOX broadcast also is available on SLUBillikens.com.
The Flyers lead the series 36-11 and have won the last two meetings, both played last season. Brooke Flowers averaged a double-double of 10 points and 11.5 rebounds in last year's games.
Saint Louis pushed A-10 co-leader Rhode Island to the limit Thursday night before falling 76-65 at Chaifetz Arena. Dayton posted a 66-60 home win over Davidson Wednesday night in its most recent outing.
KEY STORYLINES
•Julia Martinez narrowly missed recording the first triple-double in SLU women's basketball history Thursday night vs. Rhode Island. Martinez tied for the team scoring lead with 14 points, tied her career best and SLU's season high with 14 rebounds, and recorded eight assists.
•Kyla McMakin is among the top 11 NCAA Division I active career leaders in free throw percentage (seventh, .863), scoring average (eighth, 18.2 ppg), points (10th, 1,963) and field goals made (11th, 711). McMakin is tied for fourth in the A-10 in scoring (17.5 ppg) and leads the league in free throw percentage (.886).
•Saint Louis leads the A-10 in steals (9.5 spg) and blocked shots (4.8 bpg), ranks second in offensive rebounding (13.8 orpg), and is third in turnovers forced (18.0/game).
•Brooke Flowers leads all active NCAA Division I players with a school-record 338 blocked shots, 121 more than SLU's second-place total. Flowers also finds herself third among active career leaders in rebounds (school-record 1,074) and 20th in double-doubles (31).
•Julia Martinez ranks second in the A-10 and 16th nationally with 3.05 steals per game. Martinez also leads the Billikens in rebounding with 7.8 boards per game, ranking seventh overall and second among guards in the A-10.
•Saint Louis has sizzled at the foul line recently, shooting 83.1 percent (74-of-89) over its last five games. The Bills are one of four A-10 teams among the nation's top 50 in free throw accuracy at 77.1 percent (third A-10, 29th nationally).
