ST. LOUIS – The Saint Louis University volleyball team dropped a hard-fought match to Dayton Friday night, falling in three sets to the 16th-ranked Flyers on the road.
The Billikens jumped out to a 3-1 lead to begin the match, but the Flyers went on a 3-0 run to regain the lead and the momentum. Despite recording 12 kills to the home team's 13, the Flyers took the first set in 25-15 fashion.
Though trailing the entirety of set two, the Billikens swung .250 with 11 kills, but the Flyers, who had not dropped a set in their last 27, cruised to a 25-17 victory.
SLU threatened to change that in set three, though, as the Billikens held the 17-15 advantage midway through what would be the final set. A 3-0 run by the Flyers retook the lead, and the home team did not trail again finishing the third set on top, 25-22, and taking the match, 3-0.
The loss moves the Billikens to 11-11 on the season and 4-6 in Atlantic 10 Conference play while advancing the Flyers, who are undefeated in the A-10, to an overall mark of 21-2.
SLU will be back in action against Dayton Saturday at 1 p.m. (CT).
