Billiken Volleyball’s Season Ends at the Hands of Nationally Ranked Dayton

DAVIDSON, N.C. – After advancing to the Atlantic 10 Tournament semifinals for the first time since 2019, the Saint Louis University volleyball team fell to top-seeded Davidson, 3-1, to conclude its season here Saturday afternoon.

Tasked with facing the No. 19 team in the Nation, SLU got off to a quick start in the semifinal match, taking only the third conference set from Dayton Flyers, 25-23. The Billikens hit .273 against the top team in the A-10, while holding their opponent to .171 swinging.

The top seed in the conference championship asserted themselves in the next two sets, holding SLU to a combined 20 kills to take a 2-1 advantage in the match. But SLU fought back, rattling off 18 kills in the fourth set while the teams exchanged the lead three times and saw the score tied 10. SLU held the 23-19 lead late in the fourth set, fighting to force a fifth, but a late 3-0 Dayton run shifted the momentum back into the hands of the Flyers, as they rallied to take the set, 27-25, and the match 3-1.

Kayla Richardson (16) and Emily Henken (15) combined for 31 total kills while Henken's 10 digs gave her a seventh double-double. With Saturday's efforts, the senior recorded 859 kills through four seasons as a Billiken.

Carlie Rodgers led the team's defensive efforts with 23 digs on the day, 631 on the year and 1,871 through four seasons, leading the program in the category.

The Billikens, led by first-year head coach Andrea Beaty, finish their season with 16-16 overall record and an 8-10 A-10 mark.
