ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis University head women's basketball coach
Rebecca Tillett has announced the signing of Shun'teria Anumele, Mia Bergstrom and Hannah Wallace to the Billikens' 2024-25 recruiting class.
Anumele, a 5-foot-8 guard from Houston, Texas, Bergstrom, a 5-foot-10 guard from Mount Prospect, Ill., and Wallace, a 6-foot guard from St. Louis, Mo., kick off the early signing period and are the staff's first additions to the 2024-25 roster.
"We are thrilled about our first three signees in the class of 2024 Shun'teria, Mia, and Hannah," said Tillett. "They are dynamic, team first players who each add something unique to our program. All three share our program values of joy, love, toughness, and collective responsibility. They are passionate about building on our championship success and elevating our program to new heights."
Anumele will join the Billikens from Houston, Texas. During the 2022-23 season, she averaged 25 points, six assists and three steals per game. Anumele compiled 18 games with 20 or more points last season, including a 41 and 38 point-effort.
"I chose SLU because on my visit I felt the genuineness," said Anumele. "Going on visit you can sometimes get caught up in the looks and perception, but with SLU, while it all looked amazing, the people were even more amazing. They were themselves and didn't sugar coat anything with me. I'm also a very outgoing person and my personality is strong which I think will mesh well with the people at SLU."
"Shun'teria brings versatility to the one and two spots for us," said Tillett. "She is a dynamic scoring guard who cares deeply about how the game is played. She honors both toughness and unselfishness when she plays. She is also a rebounding guard, and we are intentional about that in recruiting."
Bergstrom will come to SLU from Mount Prospect, Ill., where she attended Saint Viator High School. During her junior campaign with the Lions, Bergstrom averaged 15.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.2 steals per game. She has also made 204 three-pointers in her high school career, with one year remaining. Her efforts earned her an All-Conference selection during the 2022-23 season in addition to being named to the All-Area team every season. Bergstrom was also a member of the AAU Wolverinas for 10 years.
"I chose SLU because of the family atmosphere," said Bergstrom. "I'm most looking forward to meeting new people and learning new skills that can be useful in the future as an athlete and as a person."
"Mia is a tough guard and an elite three-point shooting specialist," said Tillett. "Her release is extremely quick, and her shot is beautiful. She will challenge opposing defensive coverages. She will also, just as quickly, dive on the floor. She makes consistent smart plays on both ends of the floor."
Wallace, who rounds out the staff's first additions to the 2024-25 class, will join the Billikens after attending Cardinal Ritter Prep for her high school campaign. During her junior season, Wallace averaged 11.2 points, 3.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.6 blocks per game. She helped lead her high school team to a Class 4 District 5 Championship in 2021-22 and a runner-up finish in 2022-23 while reaching a career-high 22 points twice during her junior campaign.
Wallace's defensive efforts have earned her three-straight defensive player of the year accolades along with All-Conference honors every season.
"Choosing SLU was a no brainer for me. I support the core values of SLU and what they want to instill in their students," said Wallace. "Coach Tillett and her staff are very versatile in personality and coaching style yet synchronized in their goals for their team and players individually. I am looking forward to being able to grow with this amazing program and get a great education all while using my platform to positively influence my community."
"Hannah choosing to stay home and represent her city is a huge win for our program," said Tillett. "She is a high-character teammate. Her ability to lock down high level scorers will immediately improve our defense. She connects plays on offense. Connectors are valuable members of championship teams."
After a historic 2022-23 season, culminating in the program's first-ever Atlantic 10 tournament championship and NCAA Tournament berth, the Billikens were picked third in the 2023-24 A-10 Preseason Poll in which they received two first-place votes.
SLU begins its 2023-24 campaign Thursday night at home against Drake at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
