GAME NOTES: Saint Louis | Massachusetts
Two of the hottest teams in Atlantic 10 Conference women's basketball meet at Chaifetz Arena Wednesday, Feb. 22, as the Saint Louis Billikens (12-17, 8-6 A-10) battle conference co-leader Massachusetts (23-4, 13-1 A-10)Â in the Bills' 2022-23 home finale.
Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. CT on ESPN+ with Colin Suhre on the call.
SLU has won six of its last seven games to climb into a fourth-place tie with Saint Joseph's and Fordham in the A-10 standings. UMass, deadlocked with Rhode Island at the top, has captured 12 straight victories since falling to the Rams in the second game of the conference slate. The Minutewomen, who are receiving votes in the Associated Press and coaches' polls, avenged that loss last week.
The top four teams at season's end earn a double bye in the A-10 Championship, while teams 5-9 have a single bye. The tournament, played entirely at CHASE Fieldhouse in Wilmington, Del., begins Wednesday, March 1.
The Billikens lead the series 15-8, including an 11-3 mark at home, but the Minutewomen have claimed three straight and four of the last five decisions.
Last season, UMass prevailed 74-62 in St. Louis and 69-66 in Amherst.
Brooke Flowers averaged 14.5 points, 12.5 rebounds and 3.0 blocks, while
Julia Martinez averaged 6.5 assists.
Both teams won at home in their most recent games Sunday afternoon. Saint Louis collected a 74-63 victory over La Salle, while UMass disposed of Davidson 78-64.
