CHICAGO — Saint Louis knocked off Loyola Chicago, 73-55, in the regular-season finale Saturday afternoon at Gentile Center in Chicago, Ill.
The Billikens made it eight wins in nine contests, improving to 14-17 overall and 10-6 in league play. LUC moved to 6-23, 1-15.
"Sometimes in these games you can start to think about what's next, and you can't do that," head coach Rebecca Tillett said. "You have to stay present in the game, and I thought our team did a good job of that."
SLU wrapped up the regular season tied with Fordham for third place in the A-10 standings. The tournament bracket will be released Saturday night following the conclusion of all conference matchups.
Peyton Kennedy led three Billikens in double figures with 20 points, while also collecting six rebounds and an assist. Kennedy finished with a career-best 10 field goals (10-18).
Brooke Flowers recorded her fourth straight double-double and 40th of her career with 13 points and 11 rebounds. She also swatted five Rambler shots.
Kyla McMakin netted 15 points, while Julia Martinez had five points, eight assists, six rebounds and four steals.
The Billikens posted a 40-26 edge on the boards and scored 50 points in the paint.
SLU did not allow a field goal to Loyola in the first quarter, taking a 15-1 lead at the end of the frame.
After beginning the game 0-14 from the field, LUC registered its first bucket with 8:08 remaining in the second frame, but a 13-0 run helped the Ramblers cut their deficit to 31-23 at the half.
The Billikens knocked down the first three baskets of the second half to take control of the game. They doubled Loyola's score in a dominant third quarter, outscoring the Ramblers 28-14.
Six Billikens found the scoring column in the fourth quarter, including four players off the bench, and SLU came away with the 73-55 win.
The 2023 Atlantic 10 Conference Championship is set to begin Wednesday, March 1, at CHASE Fieldhouse in Wilmington, Del.
