Redding Drives In Four At VCU

Richmond, Va. — Cam Redding drove in four runs over two games and Saint Louis split a double-header at Virginia Commonwealth, winning game one 10-5 and dropping the nightcap 7-6 in 11 innings.

Game One

The Billikens (25-16, 10-5 A10) scored four runs in the second and three each in the sixth and ninth, while Jack Weber threw six brilliant innings in relief to take the opener, 10-5.

Knox Preston started the scoring with an RBI single in the second to score Cole Smith. Austin Neuweg singled home Preston, while Hayden Moore singled home Cameron Swanger. Neuweg then scored on an error to make it 4-0.

The Rams (22-22, 8-7 A10) scored a run in the second and three in the third to tie it up.

Swanger doubled home Tyler Fogarty to break the tie in the sixth, and Neuweg drove home Preston with a sacrifice fly to make it 6-4. Moore then doubled home Swanger for the final run of the sixth.

VCU scored a run in the sixth, before the Billikens added three more in the ninth on RBIs from Patrick Clohisy, Cam Redding and Swanger.

Moore, Swanger and Neuweg drove in a pair each, while Clohisy, Redding and Preston drove in a run each.

Owen Chaffin started and went three innings, striking out two, while Weber threw the final six and allowed just one run, while striking out a pair to move to 2-2 on the season.

Game Two

Clohisy tripled home Moore as the Billikens scored twice in the opening frame. Redding then drove home Clohisy to make it 2-0 after one. It was Redding's 150th RBI of his career.

Swanger singled up the middle in the third to score Fogarty and Redding to put the Billikens up 4-0 before VCU added two in the fourth and a run in the fifth to get within one.

Redding then singled to left center to score Sitzman and Moore to make it 6-3 in the sixth, but the Rams added three in the seventh to tie it at 6.

The game remained tied until the 11th when VCU put across the winning run.

Redding went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and a run scored, while Fogarty was 3-for-6 with a double and a run scored. Swanger drove in a pair, while Clohisy knocked in a run of his own. Moore was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Redding increased his career RBI total to 152, one away from moving into fourth on the SLU all-time list.

The Billikens are tied with St. Joseph's atop the A10 standings at 10-5 with Davidson a half game back and still to play on Sunday.

Up next for the Bills is a three-game set at home next weekend against George Washington.
