Season Ends in A-10 Championship Final

Richmond, Va. – No. 4 seed Saint Louis dropped a pair of contests to No. 6 George Mason Saturday, 4-1 and 6-2, as the Patriots clinched the Atlantic 10 Conference Baseball title at The Diamond in Richmond, Va.

The Billikens see their season come to a close with a 33-23 record. George Mason advances to the NCAA Regionals as the automatic bid out of the A-10.

Coming into the day needing one win to secure the title, the Billikens fell 4-1 in the opening game to force the winner-take-all affair.

In game one, the Patriots scored all their runs in the bottom of the fourth for the difference. Cam Redding had two hits to lead SLU, while Cameron Swanger had a hit and an RBI. The Bills managed just five hits on the day.

Ethan Gray was effective out of the bullpen for SLU, pitching the final 4.2 innings and not allowing a run to help the Bills manage their pitching staff for game two.

After falling behind 1-0 in the second game, the Billikens pushed across a pair of runs on RBIs by Cameron Swanger, who plated Cole Smith both times, to go up 2-1 through four.

Starting pitcher Jackson Holmes was dealing on the mound for SLU. He ended up going 7.1 innings and scattered six hits.

But George Mason took advantage of three Billiken errors in the sixth inning, scoring two unearned runs, to grab a lead it would not relinquish. The Patriots scored once more in the eighth and twice in the ninth to put the game out of reach.
