Billikens Complete 2023 Roster with Addition of Transfers Layton, Luebbert

ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis women's soccer has added two transfers to its 2023 roster as graduate student midfielder Liv Layton (Colorado State) and sophomore defender Izzy Luebbert (Arkansas) have joined the Billikens.

"We are thrilled to add two incredible transfer student-athletes to our 2023 roster," SLU head coach Katie Shields said. "Both are youth products of St. Louis Scott Gallagher and student-athletes we have known and followed for many years. We are so excited to have them join the Billiken family as we compete for championships this fall.

"Izzy Luebbert's experience, athleticism and soccer IQ will make a significant impact on our backline," Shields said. "She is a hard-nosed defender and dynamic left-footed attacker who has the engine to play endline to endline. Our daily environment will benefit from Izzy's competitive mentality and high standards.

"Liv Layton brings tremendous experience to our program," Shields said. "She had an outstanding career at Colorado State and will add to the sophistication and production of our attacking group. Additionally, Liv will greatly enhance the positive culture of our program."

Layton (Foristell, Mo./Incarnate Word Academy) joins former high school teammate Emily Groark at Saint Louis. She started 43 of the 61 games in which she played at Colorado State, including a career-high 18 starts in 2022. Layton recorded career highs of six goals last season and four assists in 2021, part of a career production of nine goals and nine assists. She helped the 2019 Rams go 12-5-3 and earn the program's first trip to the conference tournament.

Layton was a three-time first-team All-State selection and a three-time first-team All-Conference choice at Incarnate Word, where she helped lead the team to second in the state in 2017 and third in 2016. She was the Red Knights' co-Offensive Player of the Year as a sophomore, collecting 19 goals and nine assists. In club soccer, Layton competed in the 2015 and 2016 ECNL national tournament with St. Louis Scott Gallagher. She was a U.S. Soccer training invitee in 2015-16.

Luebbert (Jefferson City, Mo./Capital City) played in 13 games for nationally ranked Arkansas a year ago. One of her two starts was the season opener at Saint Louis in which she logged a season-high 57 minutes.

Luebbert tallied 44 goals and 31 assists during her high school career. She earned All-State, All-Region, All-District and All-Conference first-team honors and was named district Player of the Year and conference Offensive Player of the Year. Luebbert's St. Louis Scott Gallagher club finished fourth at the 2019 ECNL nationals and was ranked No. 5 among ECNL clubs in 2020-21.
