Saint Louis Baseball Adds Six Transfers

ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis University baseball will add six transfers ahead of the 2023-24 season, head coach Darin Hendrickson announced today. 

Joining the Billikens for the upcoming season are Charlie Weber, Drew Winters, Will Bolinger, Ian Blazier, Tommy Ray and Ben Gallaher.  

"The players coming in for the upcoming season will be great contributors and provide some pieces to what we feel has the makings of an A-10 championship team," said Hendrickson. "We return a lot of talent with experience and these additions will provide a blend of youth and experience to help build a great foundation for success on and off the field." 

Weber, a St. Louis native, comes to SLU after spending the 2022-23 season at Wofford College. There, he threw 55 innings, compiling a 5.8 ERA and a 3-1 record. He was named to the 2023 Southern Conference All-Freshman team for his efforts on the field which included 47 strikeouts and just 10 walked batters.  

Hailing from Jacksonville, Ill., Winters joins the Billikens following stops at John A Logan College and Campbell University. In his most recent season with the Camels, he appeared in 29 games making 21 starts, 17 in left field. At the plate Winters batted .306 with an on-base percentage of .454. He drove in 21 RBI while blasting six home runs. 

Bolinger transfers to SLU after stints at the University of Kansas and Johnson County Community College. During his first season in action, Bolinger appeared in six games in relief, pitching 6.1 innings where he recorded 12 strikeouts. During that span, he did not allow a hit or a run and only walked four batters, resulting in a 0.00 ERA. He also earned NJCAA All-Academic second-team honors following the 2023 season. 

Blazier joins the Billikens after spending the 2023 season at the University of San Diego. Originally from Nashville, Ill., he was a standout at Nashville High School. A four-time all-conference selection, Blazier capped off his high school career as a first-team all-state selection helping his team to a regional championship after hitting .448 with a school record 47 stolen bases.  

Another transfer joining the Billikens for the upcoming season, Ray comes to SLU after spending the 2022-23 seasons at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where he was part of a Ragin' Cajuns squad that competed in an NCAA Regional. During the 2023 season, Ray finished 2-0 on the mound with a 4.91 ERA in 10 appearances while pitching 18.1 innings and making three starts.

Gallaher rounds out the Billikens' six transfers and comes to SLU after two seasons with the Eastern Illinois' catching staff. He was part of a team that was crowned the OVC champions in 2023. During his most recent season with the Panthers, Gallaher threw out seven of 24 base runners and hit .232 with an on-base percentage of .344. He also recorded had two multi-hit games and one, three RBI game.

"I'm extremely proud of our staff recruiting at such a high level and landing this caliber of a group," finished Hendrickson.

The Billikens are coming off a season where they finished with a Atlantic 10 Conference record of 15-9 capped by a runner-up finish in the A-10 tournament.
