MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. – Saint Louis got a goal in the fourth quarter to tie the score, but Colgate scored the game-winning tally in sudden-death overtime to defeat the Billikens 3-2 on Sunday at SportPort International.
It was the third overtime match of the year for SLU, which dips to 1-4 with the loss. Three of the Bills' four losses have been by one-goal margins. Colgate improves to 3-3 with its second straight win on its St. Louis roadtrip.
Josefina Perez opened the scoring in the ninth minute when she scored her second goal of the year off an Olivia French assist.
Colgate answered several minutes later to make it 1-1, and that remained the score until the fourth quarter.
Colgate broke the 1-1 stalemate with a goal in the 49th minute, making it 2-1 Raiders. But Shaya Dry answered for the Bills when she scored off a Perez assist, knotting the score at 2-2 in the 52nd minute. It was Dry's team-leading third goal of the season, and second straight game where she tallied a fourth-quarter equalizer.
However, two minutes into overtime, the Raiders scored on a penalty corner for the game-winning goal.
SLU outshot Colgate 15-9 and had a 4-2 advance in penalty corners.
The Billikens return to action next Friday when they open Atlantic 10 Conference play against Massachusetts at SportPort International. Gametime is 1 p.m.
