ST. LOUIS – SIUE scored two second-half goals to upend No. 15 Saint Louis 2-0 Saturday night at CITYPARK in downtown St. Louis. The Cougars earned the Bronze Boot for the first time since 1982. SLU had either won or tied 21 straight affairs to keep possession of the trophy.
The Billikens fall to 1-2 on the season, while SIUE improves to 3-0.
It was the first NCAA men's soccer game played in the new CITYPARK, home to Major League Soccer's St. Louis CITY SC. A crowd of 8,574 attended the match.
The Cougars went ahead in the 50th minute when Mitchell Murphy scored. Nic Muench made it 2-0 SIUE in the 73rd minute, which ended up being the final.
Saint Louis returns to action next Friday when it travels to Dallas to take on SMU.
