Billikens Down the Great Danes to Conclude Weekend

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich – Led by Emily Henken's double-digit kills for the third-straight match, the Billikens defeated UAlbany 3-1 to wrap up the Chippewa Invitational.

MATCH DETAILS 

  • The Billikens defeated the Great Danes in four sets to go 2-1 on the weekend. 
  • The victory over UAlbany moves SLU's record to 4-2 on the year. The Billiken's two losses on the season have both been to the tournament hosts (Alabama and Central Michigan). 
  • SLU got off to a fast start Saturday morning, defeating UAlbany handily in sets one and two. The Billikens strong attack faltered in the third set, but the team came back to win it in the fourth set in decisive 25-11 fashion.
  • The Billikens fourth and final set of the day was kick started by a 6-0 run to give them the early (7-2) lead. SLU finished its domination with 13 kills on 31 attempts in the fourth set.

MATCH NOTABLES 

  • For the third-straight match, Emily Henken led the team in kills, compiling 17 in the win over UAlbany. 
  • Henken (17), Kayla Richardson (15) and Delaney Rice (14) all reached double digits in kills in the win. Richardson's 15 were a career high for the sophomore. 
  • Kate Aupperle tallied 46 assists in the win, a season-high for the junior setter. 
  • The Billikens hit .324 on the day while holding the Great Danes to a hitting percentage of .190. 
  • Carlie Rodgers 16 digs led SLU on the day while Henken added 12 of her own, reaching a double double

UP NEXT 
Next weekend the Billikens will travel to Normal, Ill., to participate in the Redbird Classic. SLU will face off against Miami (Ohio), Illinois State and New Mexico State, Sept. 8-9.
