WBB Preview: Billikens Begin Two-Game Road Trip at GMU

ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis University (7-11, 2-3) continues its Atlantic 10 Conference schedule Wednesday evening when the Billikens travel to George Mason (12-3, 3-1). Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. (CT).

The Opening Tip… 
  • SLU is coming off a narrow win over Dayton on Friday night, as the Billikens moved to 2-3 in A-10 play.
  • George Mason comes into the matchup with an overall record of 12-3. The Patriots have a 3-1 mark in conference play.
  • The Billikens hold the series advantage against the Patriots with a 9-4 mark.
  • The teams last faced off on Feb. 1, 2023 which ended in a 68-56 win for SLU.
  • Marcavia Shavers has had two back-to-back breakout games for the Billikens, posting career highs of 14 and 15 points against Saint Joseph's and Dayton, respectively. She also led SLU's rebounding efforts in those games pulling down 8 and 5.
  • SLU is 1-5 in true road games this season and will play back-to-back road contests against GMU and George Washington this week.
  • Julia Martinez leads the conference in assists per game through her 14 appearances. She is averaging 6.1 a contest and has compiled 86 total.

Last Time Out
  • The Billikens got back in the win column Friday night, defeating Dayton, 74-70, at Chaifetz Arena.
  • Five players posted double-digit scoring in the win, with Kyla McMakin (17), Marcavia Shavers (15), Peyton Kennedy (13), Julia Martinez (12) and Kennedy Calhoun (11) leading the Billikens. 
  • Kyla McMakin and Marcavia Shavers also led the Billikens' rebounds efforts with five apiece. 
  • Marcavia Shavers had her second-straight breakout game against the Flyers, posting her second consecutive career high with 15 points.
  • The Billikens had their third-most steals of the season against the Flyers, registering 11 takeaways. 
  • SLU stretched its lead to 17 points in the first half, but Dayton pulled within two with 15 seconds left to play.
  • The win marks the Billikens' second of A-10 play.
