CHICAGO –
Carlie Rodgers and
Kayla Jansen turned in match highs in digs and blocks, respectively, but Loyola Chicago earned a 3-1 Atlantic 10 Conference victory over Saint Louis Tuesday night at Gentile Arena.
SLU slipped to 7-8 overall and 2-1 in the A-10, while Loyola Chicago improved to 7-7, 2-1.
Rodgers posted 18 digs and committed just one reception error in 22 chances. Jansen recorded four blocks as the Billikens out-blocked the Ramblers 7-4.
The SLU attack was led by
Trinity Luckett, who had 10 kills and hit .333 (10-3-21), and
Delaney Rice, who tallied a team-high 11 kills.
Addy Brus totaled 12 digs, while Luckett chipped in three blocks.
Loyola Chicago def. Saint Louis 25-22, 19-25, 25-18, 25-16
Set 1 – Loyola sprinted to a 9-3 lead before Saint Louis answered with its own 9-3 run to tie the set at 12. The Ramblers rebounded and gradually built a five-point edge, 23-18, then held off the Billikens' late challenge.
Set 2 – Six early ties were followed by an 8-2 Saint Louis spurt that put the Bills on top 16-10. Loyola whittled the lead to 19-17, but SLU claimed six of the last eight points to even the match.
Set 3 – Loyola scored the first four points, built a 15-5 cushion and maintained command the rest of the way.
Set 4 – The Billikens trailed just 5-4 before Loyola used an 8-2 flurry to craft a 13-6 advantage. The lead remained at five points or higher through the remainder of the frame.
Saint Louis is in action at Chaifetz Pavilion this weekend, hosting A-10 opponent Duquesne Friday and Saturday, Oct. 4-5. First serve is set for 6 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday.
