RICHMOND, Va. – Saint Louis and VCU played a competitive match Friday night, with the Rams coming away with the 3-1 victory.

Saint Louis moves to 8-10 overall and 3-3 in A-10 play. VCU improves to 6-8 overall and 4-2 in the league.

The Bills were led offensively by freshman Tea Kalajdzic, who matched her career high with 13 kills. Delaney Rice also finished with double-digit kills (11).

Trinity Luckett registered a career-high nine blocks. Carlie Rodgers led the way with 12 digs for the Billikens. 

VCU def. Saint Louis 20-25, 27-25, 25-13, 27-25

Set 1 – The Billikens never trailed in the first. Addy Brus clinched the set with one of her eight kills in the match, giving SLU the 1-0 advantage.

Set 2 – SLU continued the pressure into the second set, leading by as many as eight points at 20-12 before VCU came back. The Rams had a 7-1 rally at that point to draw close. SLU had set point at 24-23, but the Rams took the next two points. VCU closed the match on consecutive kills to even things at 1-1.

Set 3 – The third was tied 3-3 early before VCU scored five straight points to grab a lead it would not relinquish. The Rams closed the set on a 5-0 run as well as they went up 2-1.

Set 4 – The Billikens led for the majority of the fourth set but were never able to fully pull away. SLU led by five at 16-11, but the Rams scored three straight to get right back in it. The score became even at 18-18, and neither team would go up by two or more points until the end. VCU clinched the set, and the match, with an ace on the 27th point.

The two squads get after it again tomorrow at 11 a.m. (CT) in Richmond.
