Billikens, Rams Tie 1-1 in A-10 Play

ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis and VCU played to a 1-1 draw in Atlantic 10 Conference action Saturday night at Robert R. Hermann Stadium.

The Billikens extended their unbeaten streak to nine and move to 5-2-6 overall and 3-0-3 in the league. VCU is now 4-5-5 and 1-3-1 in the A-10.

Positioning atop the A-10 standings did not change. The Billikens remain in third place with two games to go. George Mason and Duquesne are tied for first with 5-1 records.

Luis Lara scored the first goal of the game in the 14th minute on a set piece. Seth Anderson sent a ball to the far side of the box that was headed across the goal face by Matthew Wrobel. Lara got to it at the post and poked it home for his team-leading seventh goal of the season. Anderson now has an A-10-leading eight assists.

The Rams got the equalizer in the 74th minute. The Billikens were called for a foul in the box. VCU's Andrey Salmeron buried the penalty kick to make it 1-1.

SLU appeared to score a goal in the second half, but it was waived off after an offside call.

Saint Louis out-shot the Rams 16-4 and had a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The Billikens step outside of conference play for a big non-conference matchup on Wednesday night when they travel to Missouri State. Game time is 6 p.m. The Bears are ranked No. 15 in the United Soccer Coaches rankings and are in the top 15 in the NCAA RPI.
