FAIRFAX, Va. – No. 6-seed Saint Louis knocked off top-seeded George Mason 2-1 Wednesday night in the semifinals of the Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Soccer Championship.
The Billikens (8-3-8) advance to take on No. 2 Dayton (12-2-3) for the A-10 Men's Soccer Championship crown. The title match will take place Sunday, Nov. 17, at 11 a.m. (CT) at Dayton's Baujan Field.
Matthew Wrobel and Max Floriani scored first-half goals for the Billikens as they took a 2-0 lead into the break.
George Mason answered with a PK in the second half to cut the SLU lead to 2-1.
Jeremi Abonnel, who earlier in the day was announced as the A-10 Goalkeeper of the Year, held the George Mason offense at bay in the second half to help SLU secure the victory. He finished the match with five saves, four of them in the second half alone, as Mason got off nine shots in the second session.
The Billikens, who also advanced past No. 3 UMass in the A-10 tourney, will be looking to avenge a 4-1 loss they suffered at Dayton two weeks ago in the A-10 regular-season finale. The Flyers have advanced through the tournament with wins over No. 7 Davidson and No. 5 Fordham, both at home.
