DAYTON, Ohio – No. 5 and second-seeded Dayton captured its second-straight Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Soccer title, defeating sixth-seeded Saint Louis 3-0 Sunday in the league's title match at Baujan Field.
Saint Louis dips to 8-4-8 overall, while Dayton extended its winning streak to eight to improve to 13-2-3. The Flyers earn the A-10's automatic bid into the NCAA Championship.
The Billikens will learn their postseason fate tomorrow at noon (CT) during the NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Selection Show when the 48-team will be revealed on NCAA.com. Saint Louis has an RPI in the mid-30s and lost only twice in its last 16 matches.Â
SLU played a man down for a big portion of the match after Carlos Leatherman was issued a second yellow card in the 36th minute.
Dayton struck first with a goal late in the first half. Felix Buebang shot from the top of the box, and it bounced off the inside of the left goalpost and over the line for a 1-0 Flyers lead.
The Flyers tacked on two more goals a little more than three minutes apart in the 71st and 74th minutes. Joseph Melto Quiah scored in the 71st minute, while Buabeng scored his second of the day in the 74th for the final 3-0 tally.
Jeremi Abonnel, Max Floriani and Joey Maher were named the All-Championship team.
