ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis guards Gibson Jimerson and Isaiah Swope scored 23 points apiece to propel the Billikens to a 77-71 victory over LMU Saturday night at Chaifetz Arena.
SLU improves to 2-1 on the season heading into a matchup against Wichita State on Friday in Kansas City. LMU dips to 1-2.
Jimerson played a full 40 minutes and was 6-of-10 from 3-point range and 5-of-6 from the line en route to his 23 points. He also pulled down seven rebounds. Jimerson jumped Monroe Douglass and Roland Gray on SLU's all-time scoring list and is now No. 3 with 1,892 career points.
Swope was 8-of-19 from the field and 3-of-8 from the arc.
Kalu Anya contributed team bests of 13 rebounds and five assists to go along with nine points. Kellen Thames hit all five of his shots from the field (5-5) and the free-throw line (2-2) for 12 points. He also collected seven rebounds.Â
The Billikens utilized a 12-0 run late in the first half to create separation and take a 42-30 advantage into halftime.
Swope drilled a trey early in the second half to give SLU its largest lead of the game at 45-30. A Josiah Dotzler bucket at 7:24 made it 66-52 Bills, but LMU slowly started chipping away at its deficit and had it to within six at 68-62.
SLU then went on a quick 5-0 push with two Thames free throws and the sixth Jimerson trey of the night. Swope hit free throws down the stretch to help the Bills to the eight-point win.Â
The Billikens are in action next on Friday, Nov. 22, against Wichita State in the NABC Hall of Fame Classic at T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Mo.
