Billikens Win Wild One Against UMass Lowell

ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis and UMass Lowell had its offense on display Wednesday night at Chaifetz Arena, and in the end, the Billikens hung on for a 93-90 win over the River Hawks. 

The Billikens won their second in a row and improved to 4-2. UMass Lowell dipped to 5-3.

Saint Louis led by as many as 21 points in the second half before the River Hawks chipped away at their deficit. They used an 11-0 run in the second half and pulled within a possession late in the game.

Quincy Clark appeared to tie the game at 91-all with a 3-pointer with three seconds left, but after video review the shot was deemed a 2-pointer and the Bills led 91-90.

On the ensuing possession, Isaiah Swope was fouled and hit both of his free throws to put SLU up 93-90. UMass Lowell ended up having an in-bound with 1.4 seconds left, and Yuri Covington put up a last-second, off-balance heave that banked in, but video review confirmed it was a split-second late and the Bills escaped with the victory.

Swope led SLU with 26 points on 9-of-12 shooting from the field and 4-of-7 from the arc. 

Robbie Avila tallied 23 points on 9-of-12 shooting and 3-of-3 from the beyond the arc, including six straight points in the final two minutes. 

Kalu Anya recorded his second-straight double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. 

Gibson Jimerson was the third Billikens scoring 20+ with 24 points, all of them coming in the first half, as SLU erupted to a 55-43 halftime lead. 

The Billikens shot 60.7 percent from the field, 57.9 percent from 3-point range and 77.8 percent from the line. The River Hawks were equally efficient from the field, shooting 59 percent  from the floor and 63.2 percent from 3. 

Saint Louis is back in action on Monday, Dec. 2, hosting Jackson State at Chaifetz Arena in a 7 p.m. tip.
