SETTING THE SCENE

  • Saint Louis is set for its Chaifetz Arena season debut, hosting the Avila Eagles on Sunday afternoon. Game time is 3 p.m. 
  • Sunday's game begins a stretch where the Billikens will play five of their next six at Chaifetz Arena. Loyola Marymount comes to town next Saturday night (Nov. 16) for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
  • Sunday's game is the first of nine home games that will be televised on FanDuel Sports Network. Tom Ackerman (play-by-play), Troy Robertson (analyst) and Tamar Sher (reporter) will call the action.
  • KMOX 1120 AM is the home for Billiken Basketball on the radio. Billiken Hall of Famers and longtime SLU men's basketball radio partners Bob Ramsey and Earl Austin Jr. will the call the action for all SLU games, both at home and on the road. Ramsey is in his 39th season calling SLU games, while Austin is in year No. 34.
  • At noon on Sunday, the Billiken women's soccer team faces UMass for the 2024 Atlantic 10 Conference Championship crown next door at Hermann Stadium. Basketball fans in the mood for a soccer-basketball doubleheader can purchase soccer tickets here. 

BILLIKEN NOTABLES

  • The Billikens are coming off an 85-78 season-opening loss to Santa Clara Nov. 4 at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, S.D. Isaiah Swope led the Billikens with 24 points, which included 19 points in the second half.
  • Gibson Jimerson scored 16 points against Santa Clara. He is the NCAA's active leader in 3-pointers made, as he has drilled a school-record 315 treys in his Billiken career. He is fifth all-time at SLU in scoring (1,841 points), 132 points away from surpassing Anthony Bonner's (1986-90) career points record of 1,972.
  • Kalu Anya led the Billikens with 11 rebounds against Santa Clara in his SLU debut.
  • Robbie Avila (ankle) and Kobe Johnson (shoulder) have been ruled out of Sunday's game due to injury.
  • Head coach Josh Schertz is in his first season at SLU after spending the last three years at Indiana State. He also spent 13 seasons at Lincoln Memorial (Harrogate, Tenn.), where he led the Railsplitters to 10 NCAA Division II national tournaments. Schertz's .787 winning percentage entering the season ranked in the top 10 among active coaches across all three NCAA divisions.

ABOUT THE EAGLES

  • Avila University plays in the NAIA and is located in Kansas City, Mo.
  • The Eagles have already played four games this year. They are 1-2 in NAIA action. Avila also played Houston Christian last Monday, falling 86-59. Avila's games against non-NAIA schools officially count as exhibition games for the Eagles. It is an official game for SLU.
  • Xavier Kahube (19.0 ppg), Joe Kearney (12.3 ppg) and Brionne Williams (10.3 ppg) all score in double figures for the Eagles. Jehoiada Goins was the Eagles' leading scorer against Houston Christian with 12 points.
  • Avila is in year No. 2 under head coach Tyler Bredehoeft.
