Billikens Advance in A-10 Men’s Soccer Championship

AMHERST, Mass. – After 110 minutes of scoreless soccer, sixth-seeded Saint Louis won a penalty-kick shootout, 3-0, over No. 3-seed UMass to advance to the Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Soccer Championship semifinals.

The Billikens (7-3-8) will play top-seed George Mason on Wednesday, Nov. 13, at George Mason Stadium in Fairfax, Virginia. UMass, which was ranked No. 20 in this week's United Soccer Coaches poll, moves to 10-3-4 on the season.

SLU outshot UMass 9-6 and had an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks in regulation, but neither team was able to find the back of the net, setting up the penalty-kick shootout to determine the advancing team.

The Billikens were perfect on their chances as Max Floriani, Grady Easton and Luis Lara converted. UMass sent its first chance high, had its second opportunity saved by SLU keeper Jeremi Abonnel, and with the shootout on the line, sent its final attempt over the bar to vault the Bills to the A-10 semifinals.

George Mason and the Billikens did not meet in the regular season. The Patriots topped No. 8-seed La Salle in the quarterfinals last night to advance to Wednesday's semis.
