PHOENIX – Grand Canyon's Lok Wur scored in the final second to lift the Lopes to a thrilling 73-72 victory over Saint Louis Sunday at Global Credit Union Arena.
Saint Louis dips to 6-6 overall following its third loss in a row by less than four points. Grand Canyon improves to 8-4.
The Billikens fought back after being down by as many as 13 points late in the first half to set up the thrilling ending. A Robbie Avila triple with less than two minutes to go broke a 69-all stalemate to give SLU a 72-69 lead.
Both teams got stops on their next possessions, and a Wur runner with 44 seconds to go trimmed the SLU deficit to one at 72-71.
The Billikens couldn't get a shot off on their next possession, giving Grand Canyon the ball with the shot clock turned off.Â
SLU got a stop, but after a lengthy video review on an out of bounds call, Grand Canyon maintained possession. SLU fouled on the in-bound play, setting up a 1-and-1 free-throw situation for Grand Canyon.
Wur missed the front end of the 1-and-1, but got his own offensive rebound, then buried a turnaround, contested jumper for the game-winning basket.
All five Billiken starters scored in double figures, led by Isaiah Swope's 17 points. He also dished out a season-high eight assists.
Kalu Anya finished with 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Avila, Kobe Johnson and Gibson Jimerson all finished with 11 points. Avila added six rebounds and five assists.
Saint Louis concludes its non-conference schedule on Saturday, Dec. 28, hosting William Woods at Chaifetz Arena for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
