Jimerson Breaks Scoring Record

SAN FRANCISCO – Saint Louis senior guard Gibson Jimerson led Saint Louis with 16 points and became the Billikens' all-time leading scorer, but SLU fell 78-61 to San Francisco at War Memorial Gym on Thursday night.

The Billikens dip to 5-3 on the year, while the Dons improve to 7-2.

Jimerson came into the game needing 12 points to break Anthony Bonner's career scoring record of 1,972, and Jimerson finished with 16 on 6-of-13 shooting from the field with two 3s. He now has 1,977 career points.

Robbie Avila netted 13 points and dished out five assists. Amari McCottry finished with a career-best nine points. Isaiah Swope contributed eight points.

The Billikens trailed by as many as 13 in the opening half before going on a 9-0 run. SLU made seven of its last nine shots to close the half to pull within four of the lead at 33-29 at the break.

Swope started the first-half rally with two consecutive baskets, and Jimerson followed with a basket. McCottry capped it with a trey to put SLU within striking distance at halftime.

But the Dons came out firing in the second half. They scored 15 straight points in a 24-2 run to open up the game, leading by as many as 26 at one point.

The Billikens didn't fold and utilized a 7-0 second-half run to bring their deficit to 13, but they couldn't get any closer.

Jimerson's record-breaking bucket came on a second-half drive that was ruled a goal-tend.

The Billikens are back in action on Sunday afternoon when they host Chicago State in a 2 p.m. tip at Chaifetz Arena. The game will be televised on FanDuel Sports Network.
