Byars Places Seventh in 200 Back on Final Day of A-10 Championships

HAMPTON, Va.Zach Byars' seventh-place finish in the 200 back was the top performance for Saint Louis Saturday on the final day of the 2024 Atlantic 10 Conference Swimming and Diving Championships at Hampton Aquaplex.
 
Byars covered the route in 1:49.12.
 
Six additional swimmers scored for the Billiken men's team. They were Jeddrick Gamilla, 11th in the 200 breast (2:00.97); Adrian Paseta, 12th in the 200 fly (1:50.88); Brae Sanchez, 13th in the 200 breast (2:01.88); Franklin Liu, 15th in the 1650 free (16:05.13); Jack Locke, 16th in the 1650 free (16:05.24); and Daniel Jekov, 16th in the 200 back (1:52.28).
 
The men's 400 free relay team of Logan Townsend, Ethan Highley, Colton Mosley and Wyatt Johnson was eighth (3:03.09).
 
Emily Leonard led the Saint Louis women, placing 11th in the 1650 free (17:15.45). Leonard was joined in the scoring column by Faith McAdam, 13th in the 200 fly (2:03.08), and Lettie Williams, 16th in the 200 back (2:03.59).
 
The women's 400 free relay team of Carly McKeon, Amelia Carlson, Karis Reynaga and Leonard finished 11th (3:28.13).
 
Here are recaps of the Billikens' first three days of competition at the A-10 Championships:
 
 
FRIDAY
Brae Sanchez finished fifth in the men's 100 breast to lead Saint Louis on day three.
 
Sanchez registered a time of 54.36. He also swam on the Billikens' 400 medley relay team that placed eighth (3:19.15), joining Alex Daw, Adrian Paseta and Logan Townsend.
 
Also scoring for the SLU men were Ben Mears, 13th in 3-meter diving (256.00, up from 236.95 in the prelims); Phillip Endom, 15th in the 400 IM (4:03.52); Jacob Wasserman, 15th in 3-meter diving (231.05, up from 201.85 in the prelims); Daw, 16th in the 100 back (50.03); and Colton Mosley, 16th in the 100 breast (56.24).
 
For the Billiken women, Kenna Cashman placed 15th in the 100 breast (1:05.14). She teamed with Meghan Eng, Mia Yeo and Emily Leonard to finish 11th in the 400 medley relay (3:47.75).
 

THURSDAY
Emily Leonard's seventh-place finish in the 500 free highlighted day two for Saint Louis.
 
Leonard clocked a time of 4:55.41. She joined Amelia Carlson, Elena Escalante and Carly McKeon to place 10th in the 200 free relay (1:34.64).
 
Two individual swimmers scored for the Billiken men's team. Phillip Endom finished 14th in the 200 IM, up two places from his performance in the preliminaries, in a time of 1:52.08. Ben Militti moved up a spot from the prelims to finish 15th in the 500 free, covering the distance in 4:35.81.
 
The men's 200 free relay team of Colton Mosley, Ethan Highley, Ethan Hoak and Wyatt Johnson placed sixth in 1:21.14.
 

WEDNESDAY
Ben Mears placed fourth in the consolation final and 12th overall in 1-meter diving. Mears tallied 245.45 points in the final, up from 203.85 in the preliminaries.
 
The men's 200 medley relay team of Alex Daw, Brae Sanchez, Ethan Hoak and Colton Mosley finished fifth in 1:28.89. SLU placed 10th in the women's 200 medley relay as Meggie McPherson, Kenna Cashman, Elena Escalante and Karis Reynaga clocked a time of 1:43.71.
 
In the 800 free relay, the Billiken men and women registered eighth- and ninth-place finishes, respectively. The men's quartet of Logan Townsend, Franklin Liu, Ben Militti and Adrian Paseta covered the route in 6:42.91, while the women's squad of Emily Leonard, Meghan Eng, Reynaga and Carly McKeon turned in a time of 7:31.79.
