EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Saint Louis University baseball broke the program's home run record here Tuesday afternoon, as the Billikens blasted seven in their 13-8 win over SIUE.

The former record stood at six home runs in a single game, most recently accomplished in 2004 against Eastern Illinois. Prior to that, the Billikens had last hit six homers against Creighton in 1977.

Against the Cougars in their midweek contest,
Patrick Clohisy led the team with two home runs while
Ethan Sitzman,
Tyler Fogarty,
Drew Winters,
Graham Mastros, and
Austin Neuweg all hit one of their own as well.

SLU's bats were on fire from the opening inning once again, as Clohisy set the tone early hitting one out of the park to give SLU the lead. The Billikens tacked on seven more runs in the following two innings before SIUE answered, scoring five of their own in the bottom of the third.

The Billikens kept their foot on the gas, plating five additional runs before the game's conclusion. The Cougars made a final attempt at a comeback, driving home three runs in the bottom of the ninth. SLU kept control through the final three outs, defeating the home team by five runs.

The team's 13 runs against the Cougars moves their run total to 117 through eight games, leading the NCAA.

Dawson Smith got the start and win for the Billikens on the mound, while
Owen Kelly,
Jack Weber,
Josh Cunningham and
Evan Gray also made appearances. Smith pitched two complete innings, facing 13 batters and striking out three.
The Tuesday afternoon win moves SLU to 8-0 on the season for the first time dating back to the program's 1966 season which saw the Billikens squad, coached by Roy Lee, start 9-0.

SLU opens its home slate this weekend hosting Le Moyne at the Billiken Sports Center for a three-game series beginning Friday. First pitch between the Billikens and Dolphins is set for 3 p.m.
