Billikens Suffer Tough Loss to Fordham

ST. LOUIS – Fordham's Elijah Gray hit a jump shot with just over a second left to give the Rams a 67-65 Atlantic 10 Conference win over Saint Louis Saturday afternoon at Chaifetz Arena.

The Billikens fell to 8-14 overall and 1-8 in the A-10, while Fordham improved to 10-12, 4-5.

Bradley Ezewiro led the SLU scoring effort with 15 points and was joined in double figures by Terrence Hargrove Jr. (13), Sincere Parker (13) and Larry Hughes II (10).

Hughes grabbed a game- and career-high eight rebounds to lead the Billikens to a 40-32 edge on the glass. Ezewiro and Hargrove collected six boards apiece. Cian Medley had a game-high five assists.

Saint Louis trailed 41-32 at halftime, and the margin was still nine points, 49-40, with 13:40 remaining.

The Billikens then went on a 15-6 run. Djordje Curcic ignited the spurt with a 3-pointer, Parker buried two treys, and Kellen Thames scored four points including a field goal at the 8:12 mark that tied it at 55. It was 57 apiece following an Ezewiro basket with 6:07 to play.

Fordham tallied the next six points, but SLU answered with an 8-0 run of its own to take a 65-63 lead. Medley's bucket in the lane under heavy pressure pulled the Billikens even, and Parker turned Ezewiro's offensive rebound into a basket that gave Saint Louis a 65-63 edge with 1:17 left.

Two Fordham free throws with 48 seconds on the clock knotted the score again, setting the stage for the Rams' game-winner.

Fordham led for most of the first half and owned a 12-point cushion on two occasions before settling for its nine-point halftime advantage.

The Billikens travel to Philadelphia to face La Salle Wednesday, Feb. 7, at 5:30 p.m. Central.
