Billikens Notch 14th Win of Season in Series Sweep of LMU

ST. LOUIS – The Saint Louis University baseball team moved to 14-1 on the season Sunday afternoon defeating Loyola Marymount University, 11-9, to complete its series sweep over the Lions.

The Billikens thwarted a ninth-inning comeback attempt from their visitors as Easton Richter's three strikeouts got the home team out of a jam. It was the sophomore's first save of the season in only his second career appearance on the mound.

SLU took an early two-run into the top of the fourth inning, but the Lions quickly plated four runs of their own to take their first advantage of the day. The Billikens answered the call in the next half inning, though, as Knox Preston and Cole Smith's active bats helped boost SLU back to a 6-4 lead.

The Billikens, highlighted by Ethan Sitzman's fourth home run of the season, scored five more runs through the ensuring innings to take a comfortable 11-5 advantage into the final inning.

LMU wouldn't go down easy in the final game of the series, as the Lions scored four additional runs off of two hits, before Richter registered the final out of the game and of the series to give the Billikens the two-run win.

Sitzman's four hits led both the Billikens and the Lions while Smith drove in a team-high three RBIs.

The victory marks the Billikens fourth in program history over the Lions, as SLU now holds the all-time series advantage with the Lions, 4-2.

SLU concludes its eight-game home stand Tuesday afternoon when the Billikens host in-state Missouri State for their second, home mid-week contest of the season. First pitch against the Bears is set for 3 p.m.
