THE BASICS
Massachusetts scored all its runs in the third inning and held off a late Saint Louis charge to defeat the Billikens 5-4 Sunday afternoon at the Billiken Sports Center in the final game of a three-game Atlantic 10 Conference series.
 
The Billikens are 14-9 overall and 2-1 in the A-10.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
•A grand slam was the big hit for UMass in the Minutewomen's five-run third inning.
•SLU answered right away with two runs in its half of the third on Cami Newbanks' two-run single.
•The Billikens made it a one-run game in the sixth as Jane Kaniecki and Jocelyn Abbott delivered RBI singles.
•Saint Louis rallied in the seventh, loading the bases after the first two batters were retired, but could not push across the tying run.
 
BILLIKEN NOTABLES
•Natalie Sullivan doubled and singled.
•Newbanks and Kelsey Etling collected two singles apiece.
•Abby Ulsas, Abby Mallo and Kendall Johnson each had a single.
•Isabel Royle pitched 4 2/3 innings of scoreless relief, striking out three and allowing just three hits.
