NEW ORLEANS – Saint Louis University baseball dropped a defensive battle with Tulane here Monday night, as the Billikens were shut out in 2-0 loss.
The Billikens bats were uncharacteristically quiet in their Monday-night matchup with the Green wave, as they only tallied three hits to Tulane's six.
Hayden Moore was one of SLU's seven runners left on base and ended the top of the third inning on second after hitting a single to right field and stealing the next base. In the next half inning, Tulane made its move, hitting a ball in the left field gap to plate a run and take the lead.
In the top of the fourth inning, Tyler Fogarty tripled down the left field line before Drew Winters and Graham Mastros were walked, loading the bases. Tulane's defense stepped up, registering the final out of the inning to keep the 1-0 advantage.
The Green Wave added to their lead in the bottom of the eighth inning, using a sac bunt to drive in the game's final run. The Billikens were unable to plate a run in the final half inning, marking their four loss of the season and third straight.
SLU will be back in action over the weekend hosting Cincinnati in a three-game series. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. Friday at the Billiken Sports Center.
