ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis University women's basketball scored a program-high 119 points here Saturday night, defeating Knox College 119-42 to conclude the team's regular-season slate.
SLU ends the season with a 15-17 overall record and an Atlantic 10 Conference mark of 9-9.
The Billikens hosted the Prairie Fire at Chaifetz Arena on the team's Senior Night after Davidson forfeited its scheduled contest due to non-COVID related health and safety protocols within its program.
The visiting Division III school hung with the Billikens through the opening minutes, trailing only by four at the first media timeout of the night. SLU ran away with the game in the ensuing minutes, shooting 63 percent from the floor in the second quarter and a game-percentage of 52 percent. Kyla McMakin ended the half scoring in the paint, and sent the Billikens into the break leading 60-27.Â
SLU continued to keep its foot on the gas out of the locker rooms with Peyton Kennedy scoring seven-straight points early on in the third period. Enroute to her third career and second-straight triple double, Julia Martinez also tallied scores on back-to-back possessions, boosting the Billikens lead to 78-27. The Prairie Fire scored for the first time in the second half five minutes into the third quarter, as the Billikens continued to put together defensive stops.Â
The Billikens eclipsed 100 points with five minutes remaining in the game, off of Camreé Clegg's 67th-made three-pointer of her SLU career. SLU put up 119 total points in the win, marking not only the highest scoring game for the Billikens in program history but the largest margin of victory of 77 points.Â
Heading into the A-10 Championship, the Billikens have locked up the seventh seed and will play 10th-seeded George Washington Thursday at 4 p.m. (CST).
