Three Women's Basketball Billikens Earn A-10 End-of-Season Accolades

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Three Saint Louis women's basketball student-athletes were recognized Tuesday with Atlantic 10 Conference End-of-Season Awards voted on by league head coaches.

Kyla McMakin was named to the conference's second team while Julia Martinez and Kennedy Calhoun earned spots on the All-Defensive team.

McMakin led the team in scoring for the second-straight year with 541 points during the regular season which also led the A-10 and ranked 41st in the NCAA. During the Billikens' 2023-23 campaign in which she scored in double-figures in all but one game, McMakin became the third women's basketball player to score 1,000-points at two separate Division I institutions.

Her 2,767 points also ranks third among active DI players with nine 20-plus point performances and a season-high of 30 points on Feb. 25, leading the way.

Calhoun earned a spot on the All-Defensive team for the first time in her career after compiling the most steals of any Billiken third year player with 62, a number good for the second-most in the A-10 this season. Calhoun also ranked third in the conference in steals per game with 2.0, was tied for fifth in total assists (102) and ranked ninth in assists per game (3.3).

She also grabbed a game-high six steals in the Billikens win over UIC on Nov. 26.

Martinez received a nod to the All-Defensive Team for the second-straight year after leading the A-10 in steals (74), steals per game (2.74), assists (170) and assists per game (1.63). She also ranked second on the team in rebounds with 171 and 10th in the conference in rebounds per game pulling down 6.3 per contest.

The Chicago native was the only player in the conference to post a triple-double with her first of the season and second of her career coming at La Salle when she recorded 11 rebounds, 10 assists and 10 points. She followed it up recording a second triple-double in the Billikens' final regular-season game three days later with 15 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds.

The Billikens begin their post-season journey as the No. 7 seed in the Atlantic 10 Championship. The team will face off against 10-seeded George Washington Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m. (CST).
