ST. LOUIS – Kalu Anya, a forward who played the last two seasons at Brown University, announced he transfer to Saint Louis University to continue his basketball career. Anya will have two years of eligibility beginning with the 2024-25 season. Â
Â
"Kalu is someone we identified right away as a great fit for us," SLU head coach
Josh Schertz said. "He's a big, strong, physical player who can score in a variety of ways. He also possesses the physical attributes and lateral quickness to guard 1-5 at this level. Just as importantly, Kalu is a great young man, has high energy and is team-oriented. He is extremely competitive and thinks about the game at a high level. He really knows how to play, so we are excited to have him."

The 6-foot-8 Anya (name pronounced Kah-LOO Ahn-ya) played in 49 games (47 starts) over his two-year career at Brown. This past season, he was second on the Bears in rebounding at 7.4 per game and averaged 9.6 points to rank third on the team. He was tabbed the Ivy League's Player of the Week Feb. 26 thanks in part to a career game at first-place Cornell, where he scored 23 points and grabbed 17 rebounds.
Â
Anya was averaging 8.2 points and 6.2 rebounds in 18 games as a freshman before missing the remainder of the season due to injury.
Â
Anya was an honor roll student at Doherty Memorial High School in Worcester, Mass., before transferring to complete his junior and senior seasons at IMG Academy in Florida.
Â
Anya is the seventh new Billiken brought on by Schertz and the SLU staff. The Billikens have accounted for 10 of their 13 scholarships for the 2024-25 season.
