PHILADELPHIA - Saint Louis University baseball had its five-game winning streak snapped today, falling to Saint Josephs, 9–1, in the second game of the series.
The Billikens usually explosive offense was quieted in the loss, only recording five hits while defensively the team committed three errors.
Saint Joseph's took the lead early at Smithson Field, with three runs in the top of the first inning. In the next half inning, the Billikens did their best to answer, as
Patrick Clohisy drove in the team's only RBI, sending
Easton Richter across home plate off his single to left field. The Hawks on the other hand, tallied six more runs in the ensuing innings while defensively stifling SLU's comeback attempts.
Credited with the loss on the mound, Jackson Yarberry moved to 4-3 on the year, pitching 1.2 innings against the Hawks. In relief, Charlie Weber threw four complete innings while tallying a team-high three strikeouts.
The loss moves the Billikens to 21-7 over and 4-1 in Atlantic 10 Conference play.
SLU and Saint Joseph's will play the rubber match tomorrow at 11 a.m. (CST).
