Five Softball Billikens Named Academic All-District

ST. LOUIS – Five Saint Louis University softball student-athletes have been named to the College Sports Communicators 2024 Academic All-District team.
 
Representing the Billikens are Jocelyn Abbott, Taylor Hochman, Jane Kaniecki, Chloe Rhine and Natalie Sullivan. Abbott, Kaniecki and Sullivan are repeat selections from 2023.
 
Kaniecki and Sullivan were chosen for inclusion on the Academic All-America ballot.
 
To be eligible for softball Academic All-District and All-America honors, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, have at least a 3.5 cumulative grade point average, and participate in at least 90 percent or start at least 66 percent of her team's games.
 
Abbott graduated with a bachelor's degree in accounting and a 3.61 GPA. She started 49 games at second base and contributed 30 hits – including six doubles, a triple and a home run – 18 RBIs, a team-high three sacrifice flies and six sacrifice bunts. Abbott concluded her career with 346 assists to rank eighth on SLU's all-time list.

Hochman, a rising senior majoring in education and mathematics, carries a 3.73 GPA. She enjoyed her best collegiate season in the circle, posting a 15-10 record, a 2.56 ERA, 112 strikeouts and three shutouts. An Atlantic 10 Conference All-Academic choice, Hochman tied for the league lead in wins, finished fifth in ERA and ranked sixth in strikeouts. Her 15 victories are tied for fifth most by a Billiken in a season.
 
Kaniecki graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology and a 3.76 GPA. She was a first-team All-Conference honoree, batting .317 and ranking second on the team and seventh in the conference with 36 RBIs to go with eight doubles, two triples and a home run. Kaniecki committed just one error in 275 chances at first base and finished the season ranked third on SLU's career fielding percentage list (.993). She was named to the A-10 Championship All-Tournament team.
 
Rhine, a rising junior majoring in communication, carries a 3.95 GPA. She led Saint Louis and tied for fifth in the A-10 with 100 assists at shortstop, and she ranked among the league's offensive leaders in walks (29, eighth) and on-base percentage (.422, ninth) while recording 11 doubles, five home runs and 23 RBIs. Rhine concluded the season third in on-base percentage (.444), ninth in walks (75) and 10th in slugging percentage (.484) on the Bills' career charts. She was named to the A-10 Championship All-Tournament team.
 
Sullivan, a rising senior majoring in marketing, carries a 3.95 GPA. The Billikens' left fielder, she joined Kaniecki on the All-Conference first team and Hochman on the A-10 All-Academic squad. Sullivan led the A-10 in on-base percentage (.471) and walks (39), marks that rank seventh and second, respectively, on the Billikens' all-time single-season lists, and was ninth in the conference in OPS (.968). She batted .322, tallied 23 RBIs, 11 doubles, three triples and three home runs, and led Saint Louis with 41 runs and 15 stolen bases. On SLU's career lists, she is second in walks (95), seventh in OBP (.425) and eighth in runs (111).
