ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis University baseball earned a win over George Mason here Saturday afternoon, coming from behind to defeat the Patriots, 5-2.
The win lifts Saint Louis to 32-11 on the year and 12-5 in Atlantic 10 Conference play.
SLU's only two runs conceded in game two against the Patriots were in the first inning, as the Billikens found themselves in an early deficit for the second-straight game.
From there,
Charlie Weber threw four scoreless innings while offensively,
Drew Winters' ninth home run of the season and a
Tyler Fogarty RBI evened the game up at two apiece in the bottom of the fourth.
The ensuing innings were a defensive battle, as neither team conceded a run and found themselves deadlocked at 2-2 heading into the top of the eighth inning.Â
Two of the Billikens' nine hits came early in the eighth, as
Knox Preston and
Hayden Moore both singled to get on base. SLU's first lead of the game came courtesy of the Patriots' lone error, as both Billiken baserunners crossed home plate to give them a 4-2 advantage. Winters drove in the game's final run, giving SLU the 5-2 lead and eventual victory.
On the mound,
Evan Gray earned his second win of the year, striking out one batter while inducing five ground outs.
The Billikens will look to finish the series sweep in their third game of the weekend against the Patriots. First pitch against George Mason is set for 12 p.m. (CST).
