THE BASICS
Jane Kaniecki doubled twice and drove in a run, but Dayton used three big innings to defeat Saint Louis 9-2 Saturday afternoon in game one of an Atlantic 10 Conference doubleheader at the Billiken Sports Center.

In game two, the Billikens and Flyers were tied 0-0 in the top of the sixth inning when the game was halted by weather. Play will resume Sunday at 11 a.m. prior to the finale of the three-game series.

With the win, Dayton (29-18, 18-6 A-10) clinched the A-10 regular-season title. Saint Louis (28-19, 15-9 A-10) remained in second place, one-half game ahead of Loyola Chicago and Fordham, who are 15-10 in league play. The top two teams in the final standings earn a first-round bye in the A-10 Championship.

HOW IT HAPPENED
•A two-run home run in the top of the first inning gave Dayton a 2-0 lead.
•Saint Louis scored a run in its half of the first when
Natalie Sullivan dashed home from second base on a two-out throwing error.
•Dayton took a 6-1 advantage by scoring four runs in the third.
•The Billikens plated a run in the sixth on back-to-back doubles by Sullivan and Kaniecki.
•The Flyers tacked on three insurance runs in the seventh.

Kelsey Etling singled to extend her hitting streak to eight games, SLU's second-longest streak of the season. Etling has hit safely in 16 of her last 18 games.
