THE BASICS
Jane Kaniecki doubled twice and drove in a run, but Dayton used three big innings to defeat Saint Louis 9-2 Saturday afternoon in game one of an Atlantic 10 Conference doubleheader at the Billiken Sports Center.
 
In game two, the Billikens and Flyers were tied 0-0 in the top of the sixth inning when the game was halted by weather. Play will resume Sunday at 11 a.m. prior to the finale of the three-game series.
 
With the win, Dayton (29-18, 18-6 A-10) clinched the A-10 regular-season title. Saint Louis (28-19, 15-9 A-10) remained in second place, one-half game ahead of Loyola Chicago and Fordham, who are 15-10 in league play. The top two teams in the final standings earn a first-round bye in the A-10 Championship.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
•A two-run home run in the top of the first inning gave Dayton a 2-0 lead.
•Saint Louis scored a run in its half of the first when Natalie Sullivan dashed home from second base on a two-out throwing error.
•Dayton took a 6-1 advantage by scoring four runs in the third.
•The Billikens plated a run in the sixth on back-to-back doubles by Sullivan and Kaniecki.
•The Flyers tacked on three insurance runs in the seventh.
 
BILLIKEN NOTABLES
•Kelsey Etling singled to extend her hitting streak to eight games, SLU's second-longest streak of the season. Etling has hit safely in 16 of her last 18 games.
