Billikens Snag 2-0 Win at Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. - Saint Louis scored a goal in each half and picked up an important 2-0 victory over Portland Friday night in non-conference men's soccer action at Merlo Field in Portland, Ore.

The Billikens improve to 2-2-1 with the win, while Portland dips to 2-3-1.

Seth Anderson had the key assists on both Billiken tallies. The first came in the 27th minute on a set piece. From the right side beyond the 18-yard box, Anderson curled a ball toward the far post, and the perfectly flighted serve was met by Max Floriani who headed it into the upper netting to give SLU the 1-0 lead. It was the second goal of Floriani's career.

It was Anderson again who started the scoring play on the Bills' goal in the second half. On another free kick, Anderson sent a ball across the 18 for Cole Dougherty, who sent it back into play from the endline. Tanner Anderson was in the center of the six-yard box to head it home for the key insurance goal, making it a 2-0 game. It was Anderson's fifth career tally.

Meanwhile, the Billiken defense was solid all night. Portland came into the game having scored 12 goals on the season but the Pilots were stymied by the Billikens. UP managed just nine shots in the match, with only two on target that Jeremi Abonnel stopped for the clean sheet.

The Billikens look to continue this much-needed momentum into Tuesday, when they host the Lipscomb Bisons at Hermann Stadium. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
