No. 19 Billikens Fall to SIUE, 1-0

ST. LOUIS – No. 19 Saint Louis dropped a 1-0 decision to SIUE Sunday in the annual Bronze Boot matchup at CITYPARK in St. Louis.

The Billikens fall to 1-2-1 with the loss. SIUE, which will hold onto the Bronze Boot trophy for the second straight year, improves to 1-2-1.

It was scoreless until SIUE's breakthrough in the 62nd minute when Yasha Schaerer scored on a penalty kick. Carlos Leatherman was whistled for a foul in the box to set up the PK. Schaerer tucked it just inside the left post to put the Cougars ahead 1-0.

The Billikens out-shot the Cougars 13-4, including 7-1 in the second half, but they were unable to get one past SIUE keeper Robert Gjelaj.

Jackson Delkus provided several chances after coming in as a sub in the first half, forcing Gjelaj to make two sure-handed saves.

In the 76th minute, Seth Anderson sent a ball over to Matthew Wrobel, but his chance went just side of the far post.

The Billikens perhaps their best chance of the night in the 87th minute when Braydon Sellers sent a ball in for Matthew Wrobel, but Gjelaj stood his ground.

Saint Louis returns to action next Friday night when it travels to face the Portland Pilots in Portland, Oregon. Game time is set for 9 p.m. (CT).
