RICHMOND, Va. – Saint Louis got goals from Drake Fournier and Abdoul Karim Pare as the Billikens defeated VCU 2-0 Saturday night in Atlantic 10 Conference men's soccer action at Sport Backers Stadium.
The Billikens move to 7-2-4 overall and 4-0-1 in A-10 play. The Bills remain one point out of first place behind Fordham (4-0-2 in the A-10), which has played one more league game than SLU. VCU falls to 4-5-4 overall and 1-2-2 in the league.
It was the second straight game that Fournier and Pare scored for the Bills, as the duo accounted for both goals in the Billikens' 2-0 win at George Washington on Wednesday.
On Saturday, Fournier opened the scoring with a tally in the 26th minute off a Gershon Henry assist.
Several minutes later, Pare scored an unassisted goal.
The staunch Billiken defense yielded just five shots on the night. SLU goalkeeper Jeremi Abonnel earned his eighth shutout of the season and the 21st of his career.
The Billikens are back at Hermann Stadium next Saturday, Oct. 18, when they face Fordham with first place in the A-10 on the line. Game time is 7 p.m
