GAME DETAILS
•
Julia Simon recorded her first collegiate career hat trick and the 11th in Saint Louis women's soccer history, and the Billikens erased a 1-0 deficit to defeat Rhode Island 4-1 Sunday afternoon at URI Soccer Complex.
•SLU improved to 12-3-1 overall and 7-1 in the Atlantic 10 Conference and maintained its hold on second place with two games remaining. The Billikens handed the Rams their first loss in the last six games.
•Rhode Island slipped to 11-4-1, 5-2-1.
•Simon's hat trick – SLU's first since
Emily Gaebe accomplished the feat at Duquesne last year – doubled her season goal total to a team-high and career-high six, five of which have been scored in conference play.
•McKenna Sylvester put Rhode Island on top in the 11th minute, but SLU responded less than four minutes later with the first of Simon's two penalty-kick goals.
•
Hope Kim broke the 1-1 deadlock in the 49th minute with her fourth goal of the year.
Izzy Luebbert, who collected her team-high-tying sixth assist of the season, sent a long free kick into the penalty area, and Kim headed the ball into the net from eight yards out to put the Bills in front for good.
•Simon converted from the spot in the 59th minute to give her what was then a second career brace.
•The hat trick was completed in the 88th minute. From the right flank,
Audrey Smith sent a cross into the box that the Rhode Island goalkeeper deflected to a charging Simon, who fired a shot into an empty net. The assist was Smith's first as a Billiken.
