INDIANAPOLIS – Saint Louis claimed two team victories each in men's and women's competition Saturday at the IU Indy Invite.
The Billiken men went 2-1, defeating Bellarmine 168-111 and Xavier 156-123 and falling to IU Indianapolis 239-58.
The SLU women posted a 2-3 record, topping Bellarmine 218-75 and Butler 177.50-115.50. The Billikens were edged by Xavier (148-145) and fell to IU Indianapolis (161-138) and Bowling Green (233-66).
Saint Louis posted three individual runner-up finishes in the men's meet –
Brae Sanchez in the 100 breast (56.74) and 50 breast (25.67) and
Kyle Algrim in the 1000 free (9:40.76).
Also recording top-five performances were
Tino Ferranti, third in the 50 breast (26.46);
Eduardo Sanchez, fourth in the 200 IM (1:55.38) and fifth in the 100 fly (51.34);
Evan Crim, fourth in the 50 back (24.24);
Hayden Barnes, fifth in the 200 free (1:43.95);
Zach Byars, fifth in the 100 back (52.69);
Benjamin Vaught, fifth in the 100 breast (58.70); and
Drayton Beber, fifth in the 50 breast (26.91).
The men's 400 medley relay team of
Ethan Hudock,
Brae Sanchez, Crim and
Logan Townsend finished third (3:25.32).
Anya Brueggeman led the Billiken women with third-place efforts in the 50 free (24.57) and 200 free (1:56.70). Additional third-place finishes were turned in by
Meghan Eng in the 100 back (58.34),
Kenna Cashman in the 50 breast (30.36) and
Sarah Dingus in the 50 fly (26.05).
Faith McAdam placed fourth in the 100 fly (58.67),
Tierney Kohl finished fifth in the 100 breast (1:06.98) and
Sasha Jancekova was fifth in the 1000 free (10:49.09).
Up next for the Billikens is a quad meet with Little Rock, Delta State and Henderson State Friday-Saturday, Oct. 10-11, in Little Rock, Ark.
