No. 22 Billikens Tie URI, Secure A-10 Title Outright

ST. LOUIS – No. 22 Saint Louis played to a 1-1 draw against Rhode Island Saturday night in Atlantic 10 Conference men's soccer action at Hermann Stadium.

The point gives the Billikens the A-10 regular-season title outright. They will have home-field advantage for the A-10 Men's Soccer Championship, which begins next Friday (Nov. 7) at Hermann Stadium at 7 p.m. The bracket will be released later tonight.

SLU is unbeaten in its last seven and moves to 8-2-6 overall and 5-0-3 in league play. Rhode Island is now 4-8-5 and 2-3-3 in the league.

Rhode Island scored the game's opening goal in the 41st minute. After a throw-in, the ball was flicked ahead to Sinan Bruning. His initial shot was saved by Jeremi Abonnel, but Bruning got the rebound and buried it into the back of the net for the 1-0 Rams lead.

SLU tallied the equalizer early in the second half. Kai Jaeger took the ball to the corner before centering to the box. Tanner Anderson deflected into the goal to tie the score at 1-1. It was Anderson's first goal of the season.

Abonnel had to be sharp on a shot by Bruning with 12 minute left, making a kick save on a point blank shot to help preserve the tie. Later, Abonnel corralled a shot from a corner kick. In all, Abonnel finished with four saves.
